1. The 2001-2002 Ph.D. program:
scholarships, applications, entrance examination, didactic activities
Since the academic year 1995-96 the University of
Turin, the Polytechnic of Turin and the University of Eastern Piedmont
have annually established a three years Ph.D. program in "European
economic studies". For the academic year 2001-2002 10 students are
admitted to the programme and 7 of them will receive a three years
scholarship.
The Italian Ministry for the University and the
Scientific and Technological Research (MURST) and the University of Turin
concede four scholarships, the University of Eastern Piedmont provides one
scholarship and other two scholarships are provided by the Collegio Carlo
Alberto and the Compagnia di san Paolo. Three other students are admitted
without scholarships.
Foreign citizens with a four-year degree in
economics can apply for the program (see announcement of competition,
www.rettorato.unito.it). One
of the seven scholarships may be obtained by students who are not resident
in Italy on the basis of an evaluation of outstanding academic titles
without partecipation to the examinations. Each
year, a supplement of the Italian "Gazzetta ufficiale" states the
conditions for the PH.D. programs in Italy (number of scholarships,
deadline for applications, pre-requisites, etc.). The
applicants must send their applications, together with the required
documents, to the University of Turin.
For the 2001-2002 Academic year (XVI cycle) the
"Gazzetta Ufficiale”, will be published in July 13, 2001 and the deadline
for the application will be in August 12, 2001. A copy of the announcement
will be found in
http://www.rettorato.unito.it/per_chi_studia/dottorato/dottorato.htm There
are written and oral examinations. The dates of the examination are
September 17, 2001, at 10 a.m. and September 18, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the
Department of Economics via Po 53, 10124 Torino. The candidates with the

international monetary economics, quantitative methods, economics of the
European integration.

students are generally requested to attend some post-graduate courses at
Coripe (macroeconomics, monetary economics, international economics,

completing their general preparation. In the
second year they either take post-graduate programmes abroad finalizing
their study towards the topics of their doctoral thesis, or, residing in
Turin, they deepen their preparation in the field of European economics
under the direction of their supervisors. In the third year they write
their doctoral thesis presenting two progress reports and the final
results of their research during the preparation of their dissertation. The
Ph.D. program is personally tailored for each student taking account of
his/her previous curriculum studiorum. Students are required to live in
Turin. A
one-year period of post-graduate studies abroad is usually allowed. The
program is based on: a)
