Open to students with a plurality of backgrounds, the Doctoral Programme will follow rigorous academic standards. In order to be admitted candidates will have to pass an entry test (see How to apply).

The Programme extends over three years. The first two years are devoted to courses and seminars. All courses are taught in English.

The courses benefit from the Faculty members network of connections with international scholars and research institutions.

Students from later years are also expected to regularly attend the workshops and seminars organized by the Faculty members.

§        First Year

In the first year, students will attend taught courses: general economics courses from the CORIPE Master in Economics at the ‘Collegio Carlo Alberto’ situated in Moncalieri (Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Econometrics) and specific courses taught by the DECC Faculty (see courses and lectures series).

Each student will be assigned a supervisor, chosen among the Faculty of the Doctoral Programme, according to the topic/field of her or his research.

Admission to the second year is conditional on reaching a good result in the final exams of the first year courses.

§         Second Year

During the second year students must attend a series of courses: a full menu of specialized courses is offered.

Starting from the second year, students develop their own research, under the direction of their supervisor. Admission to the following year is based on the supervisor’s judgment. They will work at their research programme within one of the following fields:

-         Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics

-         Economics of Institutions, Law and Economics

-         Cognitive Economics and Complexity

-         History and Methodology of Economic Thought

Students are asked to participate in other research activities, such as seminars and workshops. They are also encouraged to undertake periods of research in foreign academic institutions.

Towards the end of their second year/beginning of the third one, students will present the state of their research in a open seminar, the Doctorate’s Seminar. The aim of this seminar is to give students an opportunity to present and get feedback on their research ideas at an early stage.

§         Third Year

The third year will be entirely devoted to further research and completion of the doctoral dissertation.
